PCR does NOT transfer user specific sharing and security attributes during data migration

Is your computer accessed by more than one "user", who each log on under separate user account names at start up? Is your computer configured to restrict certain users from accessing private data?

PCR services are geared towards home and small office users who don't use or don't care about these sharing and security attributes. Why? This greatly simplifies the data transfer process. PCR uses a recovery process that easily copies files and folders that have restricted access. Just beware that any preexisting attributes that previously restricted access will be lost during the transfer. The files and folders themselves will not be lost; Only the user restriction attributes will be lost. For most home and small business customers this is not a concern. If it is, usually you can later manually reconfigure these attributes if desired.

To manually configure restricted user access to folders and files you would need to first set your computer to log on with a password using one or more user accounts:

Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Pick a task: Change an account > Pick an account to change: [Click your account] > Create a password

Once that is done you would log on as the administrator and configure restrictions on the various folders that you want to prevent others from accessing.

Right click a folder > Properties > Security tab >
