SCOPE OF THE REPAIR

Palisades Computer Repair (PCR) diagnoses and repairs internal computer hardware parts and the Windows operating system only. PCR guarantees this performed work for 30 days.

BEFORE the repair please describe any concerns you may have with regard to software programs, settings and peripheral devices.

NO Support, Warranties, or Guarantees Regarding SOFTWARE or PERIPHERAL PARTS

PCR does NOT cover support, warranties or guarantees on any software-related problems arising from the computer’s system after the repair. Example: “I can’t get [a certain software or hardware peripheral part] to install or work". Similarly PCR does NOT cover support, warranties or guarantees on any peripheral parts including but not limited to modems, routers, printers, USB attachments including help with installation, instruction on use or trouble shooting of such parts after the repair. Examples: "I can't get my printer to install or work" or “I can’t connect to the Internet”. If you have such problems after the repair, these issues should be dealt with by contacting the vendor, manufacturer or service provider.

NO TUTORIAL SUPPORT

PCR does NOT cover instructional support with regard to functionality of the computer after the repair. Examples: "I can't get my wireless connectivity to work" or “I can’t figure out how to get the Windows backup and restore feature to work”. If you need Windows software functionality help after the repair, these issues may be addressed by contacting Microsoft.

COURTESY ONLY

Beyond what is covered under the 30-day warranty, PCR may or may not provide very limited support as a courtesy only, but with no guarantees or warranties. Thereafter support is provided at a rate of $30 per hour, with a half hour minimum. PCR will not provide support for unauthorized or pirated software.

NO WARRANTIES UNDER CERTAIN SITUATIONS

There is no service guarantee if customer refuses to proceed with replacement of failing part(s). For example when a hard drive fails the S.M.A.R.T. test there is a statistically high probability that the drive may fail very soon. Note that PCR does not profit off of parts. Parts are sold as “reimbursement” only.

There is no service guarantee regarding virus re-infection if PCR previously reinstalled Windows and Security Essentials (or other antivirus software). Note that PCR provides free written tutorial instructions on how to help protect from viruses at www.palisadesrepair.com/virus-protection.htm

You may ask what could possibly go wrong?

Here's a few examples....

Older software may not be compatible or fully compatible with newer versions of Windows (Vista and 7), newer Windows updates including service packs and .net frameworks. The manufacturers of software often discontinue support for older legacy software. I have personally discovered that Steinberg's WaveLab 3.0 (audio mastering software) will fail to launch when installed on even Windows XP systems.

In the past if you installed the Adobe Master Suite Collection it caused your Internet connections to fail upon restart of the system. The problem was later identified as being caused by Bon Jour, which Adobe installs under a different service name. This caused enormous headaches for many Adobe customers.

Strange failures in functionality: HP Laser Jet 1200 series printers may fail to print more than one page at a time when installed on computers running Windows 7.  HP has not fixed this issue.

Microscopic scratches or anomalies on a CD may cause a software program to fail to install.

You may have unknowingly purchased pirated software from what appeared to be a reputable vendor. Once the manufacturer identifies the product key of pirated software they will typically cause its updates to fail. There are numerous "pirate" websites being run by criminals in countries such as Russia. These sites typically sell old unauthorized software at prices that are unbelievably low. If you run a Google search for "OEM software" most if not all of the top search results will be pirate web sites that sell unauthorized software.

A failing router or modem may prevent you from accessing the Internet though a wired Ethernet connection. As part of all full repairs, PCR always tests wired Ethernet Internet connectivity. But if you cannot connect to the Internet when you reconnect your computer, as a courtesy, PCR may provide phone assistance in determining what is causing the problem, but PCR's warranty only covers the computer itself. In about 90% of cases, power cycling the modem and router fixes this, however the root cause could be due to a faulty router, modem, cabling or cable connection.

As covered under 30-day labor warranty, PCR will repair issues caused by faulty hardware or corrupt or malfunctioning Windows operating system. Often when such issues exist, a specific error message or blue screen stop error is produced.

One way to isolate what is the root cause of a problem (computer / operating system VS device / software) is to test installing the problem program or device on another computer to see if the same problem is replicated.

Otherwise PCR provides no guarantees, warranties or support regarding software or peripheral hardware devices.
