Notes: Your site will need to be hosted on a WSP (Web Space Provider). For most folks this will cost about $10.00 per month.

A domain (example: www.palisadesrepair.com ) will need to be registered at a cost of about $7.00 per year.

If you have sales of less than $5,000 per month then I highly recommend using ccnow.com, which charges a $9.95 sign-up fee, plus $0.50 per transaction (sale) plus 4.99% of gross sales. So ccnow will pocket about 7.5% on a $20.00 order. Taking orders is as simple as you receiving an email notification of an order, fulfilling the order by shipping it to the customer, then logging in to ccnow and noting that the order has been shipped. Ccnow pays every 15 days. I have used ccnow for 10 years with no problems whatsoever. They are very reliable and the simplest choice for taking Internet orders for most businesses.

On the other hand, having your own merchant account will allow you to only pay about 3% of sales, but you will also have to pay a setup fee, plus a monthly fee of perhaps $20, between $25 and $40 for a shopping cart via a company like Americart, and you will have to pay for integration with Authorizenet which charges a $99 setup fee, a $20 monthly fee, a 10 cent transaction fee, and a 25 cent batch fee. PCR charges $250 to set up these services to all work in harmony. Processing orders also involves more "hands on" effort.  As you can see there is no justification for a merchant account unless you generate significant sales.
